Joey’s Community Involvement

At Joey’s, we embrace the philosophy that “charity begins at home”. We believe that through teamwork, we can help our communities become better places to live, work and play. That is why we actively participate in various charity initiatives in the communities in which we operate. Nationally, we support the Alzheimer Society of Canada but locally, we involve ourselves in a plethora of groups and charities that rely on our support.

History

Since 2000, Joey’s Seafood Restaurants has committed to assist the Alzheimer Society of Canada in dispelling the myths surrounding Alzheimer Disease through our financial, moral and personal support. Combined, we have raised more than $950,000 through various promotional events.

Fat Fish Fundraiser

Since 2001, participating Joey’s Restaurants have been selling Finley the fish coupons to raise money for the Alzheimer Society of Canada. As part of the fundraiser, Joey’s customers make a contribution of a nominal amount to the Alzheimer Society of Canada. In exchange, customers receive a yellow paper “Finley fish” on which they write their name to be displayed at the participating restaurant. To date, this event has raised more than $175,000 for the Alzheimer Society of Canada.

Annual Joey’s Charity Golf Classic

Every August from 2000 to 2007, Joey’s hosted some 200 golfers at Calgary’s Heritage Point Golf Course for its annual Charity Golf Classic. Over this time, the event raised more than $590,000 for the Alzheimer Society of Canada. The Charity Golf Classic became an annual sell out and gained a reputation as one of Calgary’s must attend golf and social events. Joey’s plans on revisiting the golf tournament idea in the upcoming year.

Local Fundraising

Joey’s encourages its franchisees to participate in their community and support their local Alzheimer Society chapters as well as many other important local causes. Through various local fundraising events, Joey’s Seafood Restaurants across the country have raised over $30,000 through local initiatives. Many events have been highly successful, such as Cornwall’s Lobster Blast and Hinton’s Anniversary Fundraiser for the Alzheimer Good Samaritan Mountain View Centre. Silent auctions, dance–a–thons, and coin jars are just a few of the other ways Joey’s franchisees help raise money for their local Alzheimer Society chapters.
